When I was glancing through today’s newspaper, the article that caught my immediate attention was Mr.Manmohan’s vow for a stronger Lokpal. I guess this is the nth time I m hearing Government’s co-operation in this. This govt has been advocating corruption and scams of various forms for time immemorial. The recent ones being 2G spectrum, Commonwealth games , Black money stashing at Swiss Banks , Adarsh et all and dates back to Bofors arms deal ( mystery still prevails ), antique biz , Fodder scam and the list continues.Sigh!!!!
Indian Politics has been plagued with ever spreading corruption deterring its growth in the most effective way which none of us can imagine. We are known for our forbearance and we continue to tolerate the humbugs governing us from the National capital. This government is widely perceived as the most corrupt in the history of independent India. And this opaque, corrupt, and driven by greed government was startled on April 5, 2011 by a 72 year old utopian Anna Hazare and the whole country was behind him supporting his crusade against the corruption. People from all walks of life staged protests for implementing the Jan Lokpal Bill and the aftermath was the setting up of a Lokpal drafting committee with govt. representatives who never had an iota of confidence on the effectiveness of Lokpal. I personally feel this committee never took Anna and his request seriously and made a mockery out of him and the bill instead of reaching consensus with Team Anna.
And the climax was reached on 16th Aug, 2011 when Anna and team was arrested before going on a hunger strike for a more stronger anti-corruption bill in New Delhi. The government showed its tyrannical and despotic facet. Is India the largest democratic nation in the world?? Aren’t we denied of our fundamental right to dissent and protest peacefully? The consequence of this arrest has put Congress on its thinking heels. It is time for the government to understand that it is the people’s rage and discontentment that has geared so much attention to this campaign against corruption failing which it has to pay a dear price!!
Isn’t history repeating itself after 64 years????
